KONE Corporation, trade press release, September 25, 2013
KONE has won an order for 112 KONE TravelMaster® escalators and 64 KONE MonoSpace® elevators, including panoramic elevators, for two new lines of the Ankara Metro system. The new Kizilay-Çayyolu line, also known as M2, and the new Batikent-Sincan/Törekent line, also known as M3, are two of three new metro lines that are under construction in the Turkish capital.
Ankara's rapid transit network is currently made up of a suburban rail system, the Ankaray light metro and two existing lines of the Ankara Metro. The three new lines being added to the Ankara Metro are scheduled to open in early 2014. The 16.5-kilometer long Kizilay-Çayyolu line will add 11 new stations to the network, linking the city center to the residential, commercial and university district of Çayyolu in the southwest. The Batikent-Sincan/Törekent line in turn runs 15.5 kilometers westward from the northeastern suburb of Batikent to the suburb of Sincan/Törekent, adding a further 11 new stations.
"We are honored to be involved in this project, which will serve the growing needs of Ankara's commuters. Our understanding of passengers' requirements in the public transport sector and our experience in infrastructure developments has helped us provide the best solutions for the extension," says Jaakko Kaivonen, Managing Director for KONE Distributors and new operations.
The order was booked in the first quarter of 2013. The developer of the project is Turkey's Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications.
